I think salami is a wonderful deli meat, quite possibly my favorite. It goes well with my peanut butter, turkey, and blackberry jam sandwich w/the salty flavor really balancing out well. But today I made a 3 minute sandwich that was so simple I had to detail it quickly here. I had ab0ut 6 inches of leftover baguette, some of my butter spread (which consisted of butter, shallots, and garlic) from the salami bruschetta, and some leftover salami w/provolone. I just cut the baguette in half and smeared the butter and toasted on both sides on my griddle, meanwhile, I put the salami slices on the griddle also, turning over quickly after about 20 seconds. I had the bread, topped w/warmed salami, and then let the provolone melt for a brief second. So delicious I didn’t even have time to get a picture. There’s something to be said for simple flavors, but I’ll leave that for another time 😉
I love many things, but today is a big day for three of those. Sports, Cardinals vs. Phillies today, let’s go Redbirds! Cooking, 8 person meal consisting of my salami bruschetta for the app, sauteed veggies with lamb meatballs for the entree, and chocolate-dipped strawberries w/white chocolate drizzle for dessert, the results will follow in the next day or two. Music, every time I cook I get to blast my music, I’ve been in a very indie/folk music mood and will probably continue that, here are 4 songs of under-the-radar bands, 3 of which I have seen in concert in the last month. Just click on the song name and it should pull up another page to listen to it!
The Drums- Let’s Go Surfing (think Beach Boys meets The Smiths), great concert, tons of energy from band and crowd
Vetiver- Another Reason to Go (think Fleetwood Mac meets Fleet Foxes, with a little more groove), awe-inspiring concert
Fruit Bats- The Blessed Breeze (think Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes Mellencamp), in their homecoming to Chicago, the crowd was totally engaged the whole time and in sync with the performance
Belle Brigade- My Old Home (Wikipedia says think Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel), I love this self-titled album, and will hopefully see them in early November when they come to Chicago
That’s it for now. Chill out with some good tunage and keep your eyes posted for my fantastic Friday night dinner coming soon!
